The following wines are all identified as 90 + point wines, and all are highly rated by various sources. They are all different varieties from different regions, but they have one thing in common. You can find all for under $ 20. Do not hold a fortune on wine this holiday season, before you try these winners:
1. Sh. Ste. Michelle Eroica Riesling, 2007
This Riesling is my favorite bar none. It is manufactured in Columbia Valley, Washington, and has thecrisp acidity typical of the region (2007 was the best year for this type of wine in over 5 years). Orange and lime aromas and flavors are available, along with mineral notes. Highly rated by Wine Enthusiast, gourmet guide, and many others, this Riesling will not disappoint. Serve this paired with a crab dinner, and I promise you have some lucky guests.
2. Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc 2008
Produced in Marlborough, New Zealand, this wine and citrustropical fruit nose is accented by the traditional New Zealand herbal notes. Nice acidity balances the sweet passion fruit with a crisp finish. The Kim Crawford 2008 Sauvignon Blanc can be found online for under $ 15. Pair this with shrimp, mussels, oysters, crabs or smoked fish!
3. Geyser Peak Cabernet Sauvignon 2005
Geyser Peak is known for great cabs, and this is one of their best. It has everything I like in a large, vibrant Cabernet: bright, more balanced character of fruit of oak. Black cherry and blackberry dominate the aromas, with underlying dark chocolate and spices. The palate is well rounded, combined with berry fruit with a hit of vanilla and spices. It has a nice long finish. Goes well with a hearty steak dinner.
4. Gloria Ferrer Blanc de Noirs
You will notice that this rose is "the only sparkling wine on my list. To be honest, I do not drink sparkling wine very often, but I did so enjoy Napa> Valley sparklers, and it was received very well on my last evening with her. So, here it is! There is an 8% Chardonnay, 92% Pinot blend, slightly spicy, with a pink color. It shows aromas cherry and strawberry, lemon, cherry and cola flavors, carbon dioxide, with a persistent finish. It was rated a 94 by Wine News, and 90 from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. A big party with carbonic Sipper!
5. Langmeil Valley Floor Shiraz 2006
This Australian red offeringhigh ratings from all major sources, together with a complex aroma of raspberry and Lot cut of pepper, spice and chocolate oak. The palate is jamminess is balanced by a subtle spiciness, delicate tannins, and chocolate. It has a nice long finish. Pair this Shiraz with a big, fat lamb chop or produce meat stew for full effect.
I really could go on and on the review of the fantastic wines that can be found for under $ 20, but I will soon be the place in this article, and sleeps on my computer, so that thesefive must now do. Search the web or your local wine shop for these five outstanding notes, and please send me your own recommendations.
Cheers!
